This is my first post for this blog. I am doing this blog for a class about Masculinity at CSU Stanislaus. I hope to learn about males and the lessons they are taught from a young age that shape them into who they are when they grow up. I want to learn about what happens to a man when he doesn't follow those masculinity lessons, especially if he is gay or transgender. I also want to know how the lessons for males vary depending on their ethnicity. I will be reading Guyland by Michael Kimmel, Gender Talk, The New Male Sexuality by Bernie Zilbergeld PhD, Gender Talk by Johnnetta B. Cole and Beverly Guy-Sheftall, and Dude, You're a Fag: Masculinity and Sexuality in High School by C.J. Pascoe. I am also going to be looking at films and other mediums on my quest for enlightenment on the male brain. As I read these texts and view the films, I will be posting my responses, concerns, or questions on here.
